Recently, a video series called The Mexican Mormon War (below) was published on vice.com that shed light on an escalating conflict between Mormons living south of the border and the drug cartels. CEO of Vice, Shane Smith, sacked up and investigated the ridiculous history that led to the Mormons getting armed to the teeth (it's against the law to have a gun in Mexico) and revealed a lot of truths mainstream media doesn't care to share with the rest of us.
The best part about watching the video series is how much of a badass mother fucker Shane is. If you're still not convinced, check out his trip to North Korea.
It was a funny coincidence that I got fully aboard the Shane train because I recently began listening to Joe Rogan's podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, a few days ago and he mentioned how Shane had called in to promote The Mexican Mormon War. So I checked out the podcast and the topics that Joe and Shane discussed ranged from the DEA training the Zeta Cartel to opium in Afghanistan and even the surprising origins of the Somali pirates. For some reason, I surprised to learn that Joe Rogan isn't just some UFC bro, but a very insightful dude whose altruistic views are thought provoking and insightful. The two guys conversing with one another is definitely worth a listen, so give it a shot. Start the video at 7:30 and Shane hangs up around 56:30.
Bonus!
Below is a response to, "what are some travel tips?" from an IAmA with Shane. This is his response:
"LA-via-Vermont garage/powerpop wunderkind King Tuff presents two brand new, non-album tracks, hot on the heels of his acclaimed self-titled LP. “Screaming Skull” is a club-ready, guitar-driven dance hit, and “Love Potion” is a glammed-up rock anthem in classic King Tuff form.
"Brainfeeder stalwart, Gaslamp Killer, takes a break from curating mixes of the wildest Anatolian-psyche and Persian-rock breaks to focus on this massively anticipated, long-playing debut, 'Breakthrough'. He also features here in charge of the drum battery, exercising those rhythms / breaks in full effect, inspired from the impenetrably obscure records that are the mainstay in his record box.
On accompanying detail, his familiar, Gonjasufi breaks into shamanistic howl on the savage-strings of 'Veins' and the psyche-heavy, 'Apparitions'. Fellow LA-based beatmaker, Daedelus, also appears, stirring up the demented, electronic fusion of 'Apparitions'. Dimlite is also here and his contribution to the moog-heavy funk of '7 Years of Bad Luck for Fun'. A hard-hitting debut that's as breathtaking, diverse and challenging a listen in equal measure."
For a while I had been hoping GLK would be coming out with something new and look what I found? Breakthrough baby! The two tracks above are my top picks of the album (so far) and stay pretty much within the boundaries of his established sound and style. I wish I could have heard some of his stuff leading up to the Breakthrough release, but I have yet to make the short journey to Low End Theory. I know GLK has some pretty formidable DJ skills, but I'd like to see the eccentric dude prove himself with the live instruments he used to produce the album. Either way, seeing GLK perform a DJ set or live one, it'd be fun time all around.
A little birdie told me that Flying Lotus might be playing at Storke Plaza for the freshman this coming weekend. Fact or fiction? Only the coming days will tell... Updates to follow.
The lo-fi sound is laid back, but fun. There's always a time in my day for something like Waters. White Birds released the track through their label, Grizzly Records, a few months back and I think it deserves some more love that it has gotten. Cheers!

Just some of that hippy bullshit. But in all seriousness, I find Beats Antique the perfect sound to put me in a good head space for a solid climb, skate or slack session.
I've been diggin' through the digital crates and found some killer tracks. Here's the first:
Twice (Aaron Jerome Remix)
Some more new oldies in the coming days. Also! If you haven't checked out the Third Eye Bliss tees, they're in and available for purchase. View them through this link: THIRD EYE BLISS
"July 1st. Bobby in Marseilles to Fred Austin in Hammersmith, How about it. Very hot here Kennels very well served in this town... Both Picasso and Matisse amassed postcards and used them in their work. Matisse fell in in love with this type of odalisque in Morocco and dressed his models in the style, using decorative motifs as LL has done here. Though created for the erotic market this has its own grandeur. (30mm)"

If you're going to be in London on November 3rd, catching Flylo, Thundercat (who was in the Mhmm vid), The Gaslamp Killer, Lapalux, and Kutmah is going to be the best bang for your buck. I've seen FlyLo once in concert and the live experience is unforgettable! Grab your tickets yo! -gonz
Anyhow, I was looking through a Japanese magazine and turned the page only to be as surprised as the dude above. I didn't know what to expect when I was flipping through the pages, but now I proceed with caution. My new rule of thumb is to be prepared for WTF shit whenever looking at foreign magazines not in english. Expect more of this in the coming days; this was part 1 of JAPAN WTF!?
One listen to that song and I was hooked. I guess I'm really diggin' the psychedelic vibes these days. Also, golf clap for the Arts Library for really coming through with another clutch photo. The above picture is of a hotel in Marbella, Spain, which I stumbled by with a few friends a couple years ago. I remember it looking as rad as it does in this picture. Building boner.
Sup amigos! It's been a very busy month for us here at GSF and we're finally ready to release our first tee, Third Eye Bliss. With original art by Buck Yedor, all tees are white and screen printed with black ink. Shirts are available in all sizes except small. We are not trying to make a profit by selling these tees (not yet anyways ;) ) and are only asking the purchasing price from the vendor and shipping, which is about $8-9. If you're like me and you CAN'T PASS UP A SALE SON, shoot me an email at submissions.goonsquad@gmail.com
*note: all lines on the tee do not indicate black ink, just where seams are.
MuddFest was super fun last night! Guaps, our photographer, snapped a bunch of great pics of everything at the show. This coming week you'll be able to see the photo album as well as some posts about a few of the bands that really rocked it. Enjoy your 2nd Saturday brahs.
