So I got in touch with Fred of Halasan Bazar and he directed me to a "live jam [that was] made into a film noir psychedelic murder mystery." The music definitely ties the fun and retro cinematography together with gusto.
I've never had a legitimate claim to fame and after reviewing this post, I still don't. If I did, however, it would be because of a member from Gardens & Villa. It all began with Dusty Ineman, the visionary who was responsible for this:
Thanks to Dusty, the poor planning of a bike modification gone awry quickly turned into a comment karma goldmine on Reddit. The photo eventually circulated all over the internet and received over a million views. With my 15 minutes of fame stolen by my sketchy bike, at least I have an excuse for never making the headlines in the future. It's totally cool though. I would rather see Gardens & Villa, a group of dudes with actual talent, making it big.
To get you warmed up, the ideal entry level track for any listener who has never been exposed to Gardens & Villa is Black Hills. Among the variety of delicious sounds, my two favorite are the clean guitar lick and staccato progression on the keys, which gives the song a mellow-pop vibe. Black Hills is perfect for pretty much anytime (unless you're raging face) and I get stoked whenever it's reverberating through my speakers. Have a listen.
Black Hills
So sick right?! If you liked that, you're going to dig this funky track called Orange Blossom.
Orange Blossom
That BASS, UH! Im a fiend for doin' it live and these guys are definitely doing something right. Check out their website www.gardensandvilla.com, it has lots of fun stuff. See ya back here mañana.
"My track off the recent GRL MTN compilation, Aaural II. My first after slightly altering my name from Delusions to d'lusions. Will it stick? Only time will tell.
Colorado is attempting to regulate weed like alcohol by putting proposition 64 on the ballot this November. It would be pretty cool if us Californians could have another go at our weed regulations, but we would definitely need to take some notes from their campaign advertisements. Check out "Dear Dad" below.
If proposition 64 does pass Colorado will hopefully turn into a weed Mecca like Amsterdam, leaving the Goon Squad with only one option...
Glasgow's Father Sculptor, no. 1,324 on the Guardian's Band of the Day series, is a fresh take on a Smith's-esque style. Though they have a similar sound I'm not here to compare a late and great with a new and potentially rising star of a band. Aristide is Father Sculptor's latest single and it's definitely worth a listen.
'Aristide' is now available for free download via
http://fathersculptor.com/ . I hope I'm allowed to release that to you. Anyways, check back here for more updates, should they feel the need to keep me in the loop. Cheers.

I heard the top two tracks off of Gorilla vs. Bear and after a week or two of having them on my playlists, I felt I had to re-post these. Flying Lotus and members from Odd Future collaborate under the name Captain Murphy, a character off the Adult Swim show, Sealab 2021 whose personality is very similar to Malory on Archer. Mighty Morphin' Foreskin is a brash track (typical of Tyler & Earl), but produces a very nostalgic feeling by the various samples that pay homage to classic pop culture icons such as Godzilla, Dragon Ball Z, and Street Fighter.
Captain Murphy dives fearlessly into the occult with the Ritual. Slowed laughs in the create an overarching dramatic and sinister tone that support the flows describing the sacrifice of a virgin. Captain Murphy has brought something really enjoyable to the table and hopefully these first two songs are just a taste of more to come. Below is another track by Flylo that features Earl Sweatshirt, check it out!
What kind of drugs just seeped into my eyes via the computer screen? I don't know and don't care. DUDES are SWEET! I'm really digging the low quality/garage produced feel, it reminds me of MGMT's Time to Pretend. Hope you liked C.O.S.M.I.C. as much as me!
"Holy
Esque formed just over a year ago but has already stood out as "Glasgow's
most exciting and inventive new band" according to NME. The Raveonettes seem
to agree and have personally selected Holy Esque as the support act on their
upcoming European tour. The band comprised of four young men ranging in ages
19-20 keep a noticeably discreet online presence, but their lack of banter
shouldn’t be misconstrued as an attempt to appear ‘mysterious’—“ We just want
folk to focus on the music. The rest of it... who gives a fuck?” says lead
singer Pat Hynes in a recent interview.
Holy Esque independently released
their self-titled EP this past April, which they recorded at a DIY built studio
with producer Kevin Burleigh (Glasvegas,
Simple Minds, etc.). Drowned In Sound deems the EP “compelling
from start to finish”, while The Skinny
describes their “heart-stoppingly beautiful performance” as a combination of
“Cobain-like vocals with Joy Division’s
sense of atmosphere and space”.
In support of their EP, Holy Esque recently played gigs with the likes
of WU LYF and Spector and were a featured artist at Tallinn Music Week 2012.
The band has seen attention from UK radio, topping
the Amazing Radio chart two weeks
consecutively as well as appearing on BBC
6 Music, BBC Radio 1 Introducing
and BBC Radio Scotland shows.
When they aren’t making music, the
Glasgow School of Art students are busy maintaining the aesthetic of the band;
designing their own artwork, printing
posters or curating a Tumblr blog of photos
that could put Instagram users to shame. The name and symbol representing
Holy Esque doesn’t necessarily represent a religious ideal, rather a concept
open for interpretation—something for the band to believe in and fans to put
faith in."
Via their publicist to me. Check out one of their songs I liked.
