Vibes of the Tribe

Here's some fresh original music for you guys!  I've been trying very hard to achieve that elusive production blend between the acoustic sounds that I love and the new age beat structures/ percussive rhythms that I find blissfully hypnotic.  Please check out my new song and share it if you enjoy what you're hearing!

On a side note: I'll be spinning/performing some music live at Avalon bar in Costa Mesa, Saturday May 4.  There will be an art showcase, lots of good tunes, and chill peeps to hang out with all night so come check it out!

Urbance

Here's a trailer for the new animated tv series called Urbance.  The story sounds a little cheesy, but the visuals look pretty darn good.  This is the description:

"In the big city, gender war rises. Sex is prohibited because of a genetic deadly virus. Ruled by hate and anger, boys and girls grow up apart from each other, forming rivals gangs.  Among these lost teenagers, Kenzell and lesya will fight adversity and defy all the rules in order to live their love and restore peace."

I'm posting this because I'm down for Busy P and his track called Pedrophilia.  Check out the vid below.

Shout out to ED BANGER RECS!  Holla!

So Good To Me

This song reminded me of the many times I rode that bumpy and sometimes sketchy trail to Sands.  It's a little bit less of an adventure now that there's a nice groomed trail, but who can deny any change that makes things a little easier?  Next time I visit I'll probably pull a classic old timer line about being there before everything got all shitty.  Meh.

So Good to Me makes me excited to go to an electronic show that doesn't want to rape my ears with silly and unsoundly drops.  More of this please, musical world.

The XX

"John Talabot + Pional have been supporting us on our tour recently, and made one of our favourite albums of 2012, 'Fin'. They've done a wonderful remix of Chained, paying homage to another of our favourite productions, The Streets' 'Blinded by The Lights'. Hope you like it.

Chained (John Talabot and Pional Blinded remix)

Quality electronic beats right there.  Kinda makes me want to upgrade the desktop speakers to get the full experience.

Koop

Come to Me

"Koop is Oscar Simonsson & Magnus Zingmark.
"When listening to Koops music it's somehow easy to believe that it's played by a small orchestra, but in fact the music is based on samples. Thousands of small clips from records puzzled together into new songs. All the drums, strings, horn sections and choires are actually sampled! This is a very time consuming way to make music (it's one of the reasons it takes such long time to make a koop album), but it's the only way to create the surreal Koop sound. One thing though, that for sure aren't sampled, is the vocals. Many singers has blessed the Koop albums with their talent, and on Koop Islands the singers are : Ane Brun, Yukimi Nagano, Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Rob Gallagher and Mikael Sundin. Come to me is sung by Yukimi Nagano and is taken from the album "Koop Islands". Marcus Söderlund directed the video in Stockholm."

I was shocked to learn that Yukimi Nagano was only 15 years old when she sang Come to Me for Koop. Thanks for the heads up on this one Buck.

Gaslamp Killer

Nissim (with Amir Yaghmai)
Dead Vets
ft. Adrian Younge and MRR

"Brainfeeder stalwart, Gaslamp Killer, takes a break from curating mixes of the wildest Anatolian-psyche and Persian-rock breaks to focus on this massively anticipated, long-playing debut, 'Breakthrough'. He also features here in charge of the drum battery, exercising those rhythms / breaks in full effect, inspired from the impenetrably obscure records that are the mainstay in his record box.

On accompanying detail, his familiar, Gonjasufi breaks into shamanistic howl on the savage-strings of 'Veins' and the psyche-heavy, 'Apparitions'. Fellow LA-based beatmaker, Daedelus, also appears, stirring up the demented, electronic fusion of 'Apparitions'. Dimlite is also here and his contribution to the moog-heavy funk of '7 Years of Bad Luck for Fun'. A hard-hitting debut that's as breathtaking, diverse and challenging a listen in equal measure."

For a while I had been hoping GLK would be coming out with something new and look what I found? Breakthrough baby!  The two tracks above are my top picks of the album (so far) and stay pretty much within the boundaries of his established sound and style.  I wish I could have heard some of his stuff leading up to the Breakthrough release, but I have yet to make the short journey to Low End Theory.  I know GLK has some pretty formidable DJ skills, but I'd like to see the eccentric dude prove himself with the live instruments he used to produce the album.  Either way, seeing GLK perform a DJ set or live one, it'd be fun time all around.
