MOVIE REVIEW: SUPERFLY

Around forty years ago grindhouse theaters popularized a genre of film called “exploitation” that more or less corrupted movies and television today.  When I say corrupt I mean how my grandma uses it to describe the “bad” advice my grandpa gives me about money, women, drugs, etc.  For filmmakers, grindhouses were a way to push the limits by showing new forms of art too controversial for mainstream theaters.  Some exploitation subgenres that are fun to explore include cannibal films, carsploitation (car wrecks), eco-terror (Godzilla), spaghetti westerns, slasher, and revenge films.  Over the years, critical acclaim of certain exploitation films has lead to many cult followings and  contributed to the wide acceptance of over-the-top special effects, sex, and violence in the commercial film industry.

Now that your somewhat introduced to the exploitation genre, let’s talk about Superfly.  I wasn’t expecting much from the blaxploitation movie that inspired Black Dynamite, but besides the occasionally sloppy cinematography, it was actually really entertaining.   The protagonist, Priest, is a glorified New York City cocaine dealer so fast on the rise that he is already depending on his one last big score to retire.  After Priest makes his cocaine connect with (don’t act surprised) the cops, the coke distribution montage ensues with still shots of Priest and his associates doing what drug dealers do best, dealin’ fuckin’ drugs.  Apparently times are good for our hero as he earns his paycheck selling dope to all members of society including white-collar businessmen, construction workers, and average Joe black dudes.  But this isn't some intense sequence of risky transactions, Superfly is all about being cool.  The movie receives 10 style points for the use of Curtis Mayfield slick track, Pusherman, which was queued whenever Priest was making bank or being a serious bad ass.  There's something about the funky 70’s jams which are just as characteristic of Blaxploitation movies as the clever, ghetto street slang that helps me view serious social issues as enjoyable and lighthearted occurrences.  Ultimately, the film resolves itself with Priest stickin’ it to the corrupt honky police, getting away with dealing a massive amount of drugs to the community, and running off with his money.  Two things to take away from Blaxploitation movies are that white people are out to get you and criminal activity is a justified way of getting out of poverty.  I can relate to this movie… no, I can’t relate to this movie at all, it was just really fun to watch and I think you should check it out.  Turn it into a drinking game or something; it’ll be fun, I promise.

YOUNG GALAXY

I first was introduced to Young Galaxy in one of the dark alleys of the internet.  I'd rather not tell you where I discovered the animated video for Peripheral Visionaries, one the best songs off their new album Shapeshifting, but between you and me, entensity isn't exactly the place I would assume to find a great new band.  Surviving in the post-apocalyptic chillwave sound spectrum, Young Galaxy creates a dreamily uplifting vibe that is refreshingly fun to kick back and enjoy.  This combined with lead vocalist Catherine McCandless' memorable voice, provides the group with the flavor and edge that separates them from many indie groups.  Reigning from Vancouver, Canada which is probably a winter wonderland these days, Young Galaxy is finishing up the year in Ottawa at the Ritual Nightclub (tonight) and Waterloo at ONStarlight Social Club (Sunday 12/4/11).  Sorry everyone from everywhere else in world, it looks like Canadian Christmas came early. On to some videos, the first video I talked about is below:

That was part 2 of Bone Tongue's adventure, here's part one titled "We Have Everything"

Ethereal, reflective moods is their specialty!  Here is one of my personal favorites off of Shapeshifting:

If your not impressed with their versatility yet, "Phantoms" will help.

After listening for Young Galaxy for a couple of months now, they've earned a special place in my go to playlist for everyday jammin'.  Hopefully they'll make it to the Los Angeles area soon.  Good luck on finals!

FAKE BLOOD

I was recently browsing my iTunes for old music when I realized it had been a while since I listened to Fake Blood. A couple minutes later I found myself on Soundcloud listening to a mix titled Used Volume 1 by Theo Keating aka Fake Blood. When it finished (the mix was about an hour long), I was already hitting replay. Here's what the British DJ had to say about it, "I've done 4 x 1 hour mixes (and a 5th is in the pipeline), solely made up of old tunes sampled in classic Hip Hop tracks - but cut up on two copies / decks to re-create the loops / chops people used.  I didn't use any compilations, reissues, bootlegs, or downloads. All originals. I've always been a digging fiend on the side! But - to save the original pressings (and also cos it's hard enough to get one copy of some of these, let alone two!) - I loaded them into Serato vinyl, so I could scratch away to my heart's content, with[out] ruining anything!  So here's VOL.1."  Enjoy.

PROJECT PLAYLIST ASSIGNMENT #1

PROOF OF LIFE
You are traveling through Nebula G-683 and encounter a rare, elusive space unicorn. What playlist does he give you to bring back to Earth to prove his existence?  Unfortunately, you only have one cd (80 megabytes or about 12 songs) so choose wisely! Post your playlist in the comments section below.

GOON SQUAD FOREVER'S PLAYLIST
1. Gang Gang Dance - Glass Jar

2. Julian Casablancas - Glass

3. Twin Sister - Kimmi in a Rice Field

4. Metrik - Between Worlds

7. Puissance 13 + 2 - Spectre Arkham

8. Hooray for Earth - True Loves

9. Rhythm Droid - Sunrise on Planet Tokyo

If you don't believe in the space unicorn after that musical selection, I don't think you ever will. This Project Playlist would not have been started if it weren't for Allie Cope, thanks for the great idea! Stay tuned for more, amigos.

BADBADNOTGOOD

The lower levels of Ocat are dingy and horrible places for any form of life to exist.  Aside from those intergalactic refugees that prefer the humid darkness, the humans here are the ones who fell through society's cracks.  They're the pimps, hookers, criminals, and the wanted; the scum.  Which of those am I?  Ha!  Not going to tell you my story yet.
A red light reveals the silhouettes of three well composed musicians preparing for a nights performance.  At least Frank's bar has a porthole to see out.  He actually has the only place with a porthole in this sector and now that I think about it, that damn thing probably set him back a few years.  Though it's small, the porthole lights a cylinder of smoke that streaks across the room.
I blend well with the other late night lurkers who fill the tables surrounding me. "Another washed up band?  Better order another watered down drink," I say muttering under my breath.  Forward 15 minutes -- sitting transfixed at my low table, I finish the lower lever specialty, Teagrit without noticing.  The effects of the mild hallucinogenic onset quickly and make the room apear to ripple, but it subsides just as fast.  I instinctively order another drink.  I'm transfixed in the sound and am not the only one.  The trio captivates the bar like a snake charmer hypnotizes a cobra. The sound is so smooth it would take an act of god to stop everyone from bobbing their heads.  My plan to hitch a ride on the early morning hauler dissolve from my thoughts.  I motion for Frank, "When did these guys get in?"  "Ahhhh haha you like them, eh? says Frank, beaming. "They were here last night and by the looks of it, they're drawing a bigger crowd tonight!"  He was right, the bar had filled up quite a bit without me noticing.  I make sure he's looking at me and I mouth, "Well, I wish I could stay, but I'm out of here tonight, Frank."  Shocked, he looks at me like I'm insane.  Itching under his nose he mouths, "You're going to die, kid!  They eject anyone caught trying to escape without the right permits!  You know that."  My frustration gets the better of me and I say out loud, "The lower levels are getting worse Frank!  We have to wear O Masks everywhere!  I'm not going to die on this godforsaken asteroid."  The song was crescendoing as I was making my outburst so no entrepreneurial neighbor could hear what I planned on doing.  I mean, I've snitched on a few people in my time to keep some food on the table.  Let's hope nobody has the same idea for me...

To be continued.

I can't remember if the drink she brought me was any better than the last, but it didn't matter because I learned the name BADBADNOTGOOD. Give the video below a play and then I'll tell you more.

Refreshing wasn't it? Very cool too say the least. If you found any of those sounds familiar then you're probably already acquainted with MF DOOM. What you just happened to hear was an adaptation by BBNG of 3 MF DOOM's songs, Supervillain, Fazers, & Vomitspit. The ultra smooth jazz sound they create is just too good to go without praise and if you aren't sold on that first jam, check out their renditions of Tyler the Creator's She, and Gangstarr's Mass Appeal.

Here is the mixtape where you can find all of the above: BADBADNOTGOOD MIXTAPE
This track is absolutely essential for impressing guests with your refined music taste and expanding your personal collection with something a little more classy. I hope you enjoyed this post, more to come soon.

Stay slick.

GROOOVIN

I downloaded this sweet track from DAFTWHO? the other day and it's uplifting vibe grabbed a hold of me and still hasn't let go.  The original version of I Lay My Head by Fallulah is definitely a great song, but Shook brought his nasty French funk to the table and in my opinion made it much better.  Not many have heard of Shook (until recently, myself included) but this guy is someone to keep note of on the electronic music scene.  Here's a cool remix of Phoenix's Lisztomania.

OZZY, WRONG?

WRIGHT.

It's time I introduced you and everyone else to my favorite surfer, Ozzy (Wrong) Wright.  As a sponsored Volcom surfer, former competitor in the VQS World Championships, artist, musician, and filmaker, Ozzy does everything a man with a free spirit and large amount of cash can do, have a good time.  His band, GOONS OF DOOM, has been under the radar of so called 'popular' music scene and for good reason: it's too gritty and shitty sounding too be really good and liked by the mainstream.  At the same time that's why the Goons are so damn fun to listen to.  Actually, fuck what I just said, they aren't shitty sounding at all.  I guess surf music just has a special place in my heart and the Goons, well, they just make me want to paddle out and screw around with my buddies.  Needless to say, I'm a big fan and below you'll find some of my favorite works of his.

aaand here are a couple songs of him singin:

Yeah, so basically this guy kills it all day.  Here's bonus vid of Mr. Wrong surfing:

THE MAN IN BLUE

After not finding anything edible in my fridge, I turned back to the best thing that will make you forget you're hungry, the internet.  Doing some paroosing of my favorite blogs, skimming over summer look books and what not I stumbled upon a link by Hypebeast.  Anatomy of a Mash-up: "Definitive Daft Punk" (Visualized) was the title and as a fan of the house gods I quickly found myself reading Cameron's (aka The Man in Blue) explanation of a mash-up.  What you will find after following the link below is a visual representation of 23 Daft Punk tracks mashed-up in about 6 minutes.  It makes me want to buy an APC 40 and Ableton live.  Anyways, click this  ANATOMY OF A MASHUP

what matters most

Ahhhh I LOOOOVE IT.  The song mostly and i can't complain about the crisp looking vid (I recommend you redirect yourself to the vimeo site to watch the vid in HD) which was shot on location in Seattle, Washington.  The guy from Shabazz Palaces who I cant remember his name helped with some of the music.  I didn't really catch any of what he did music wise in the vid, I mostly heard Flylo, but it's all good.  Here's what Shabazz is all about.

Oh!  so i hear Coachella is coming up in a couple days?  This weekend or the next?  It doesn't really matter because I wouldnt be able to make it anyways.  What does matter my friends is that I will be going to mofuckin PRIMAVERA FESTIVAL and you can all bet your sweet asses I'll be writing about it and posting hot naked myspace pics of myself in my future new Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All tee (partially newdie pics i suppose).  Well, I'm off for pizza.

SEBASTIAN!!!!

FTR

Apparently ED Banger has been taking care of business behind the scenes.  We can expect the new Justice album sometime this year and SebastiAn is releasing his new single Embody.   SebastiAn's track is blowing up right now, picking up a lot of solid hype thanks to the So-Me directed Embody music video.  For me, it's one of those tracks where I'm scared of overplaying it, but I honestly can't stop listening to it.  Embody screams Pharrell while making you want to dance your pants off and is perfect for the trip to class, bathroom, skate park or any kind of gnar sesh.  Check out the Embody music video below.

IN THE LAND OF

VICE

PART 1

Nothing in life is free... except VICE magazine.  This monthly periodical, created in 1994 by Suroosh Alvi and Shane Smith is one of my favorite ways to stay connected to pop culture and independent artists.  What sets VICE apart from other magazines of similar natures is the price.  Any magazine that features articles written by those in the mix of fashion, art, or anything relevant usually costs 8 bucks or more at your local magazine store.  However this mag is distributed worldwide in 28 countries and modified specifically for the readers and is (once again) completely FREE.  The targeted demographic is trendsetting young people from the ages 21-34 who support the 100% pick up rate VICE mag receives.  This provides the ideal platform for companies like Nike, Scion, and Red Bull to advertise their latest product and fund VICE's efforts.  Taking a look at the magazine, it's abnormally large dimensions  make it easy to spot, hard to lose, and make for a great read anytime of the day (especially on the pot).  Here are a few covers from over the years.

VICE cover

VICE cover 2

VICE cover 3

VICE cover 4

VICE cover 5

VICE cover 6

Now that's just the magazine, VICE also has a website (VICELAND.COM ) where you can find any article they've ever published.  Furthermore, the laundry list of divisions that comprises the VICE brand includes VICE Films, VICE DVD, VICE Music, and VICE Books.  The film division has worked with the UK Film Council, Academy Award-nominated director Spike Jones, but is most known for their production of the critically acclaimed rockumentary , Heavy Metal in Baghdad (trailer below).

Titles under VICE DVD include the notorious VICE Guide to Travel that has been called "60 minutes meets Jackass"  and the award winning skate series Epicly Later'd.  VICE Books has published The Vice Guide to Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll, The Vice Photo Book, and the fashion critical Do's & Don'tsBook which will be followed by a second Do's & Don'ts later this year.  Saving the best for last, VICE Music is a company that has some of the sickest groups under it's label.

Sorry folks, but that was just Part 1 of  IN THE LAND OF VICE which is a 3 part post.  Check back later this week for Part 2.

NEW JUSTICE ALBUM ART

JOOSTICE

While browsing HYPETRAK, I found this little piece (above) and supposedly it's artwork for the new Justice album. Needless to say I am super stoked! Justice has been out of the spotlight for some time, but hopefully their release of "Civilization" later this year will catapult them back into the electro music scene. If you don't remember their success in 2007 with or "Cross Symbol" then here are a few videos from that album to refresh your memory.

FLYING LOTUS

In the beginning, we have the Jade Emperor, The Creator.
He creates the 12 year Zodiac cycle as a way of measuring time.
The animals compete in a swimming race for their place in the Zodiac.
In the middle we have the Demon, the Destructor.
And so the Yin and Yang balance is complete, and the Zodiac is destroyed.
At the end we see the cat, who was betrayed by the rat in the race for the Zodiac.
The rat pushed him off the Ox into the water.
And this is the source of the cat's hatred for the rat.

Get your Coachella fix without being in California.

Hello
bleepy bloopie

What is Primavera Sound? My answer, a Spanish version of Coachella that rivals the Californian music festival by it's sheer number of musical acts.   It may not have the trippy shit everyone loves like color changing balloons or that huge cube thing, but the location is incredible and beautiful Barcelona is a must visit city (pictured below).

HOW TO...

USE BitTorrents

Don't steal or download what you haven't paid for (disclaimer on the side). With that being said kiddies, you've got some learnin to do. Today's lesson is about BitTorrents or torrents. According to wikipedia, "BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for distributing large amounts of data and is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files." It begins when one person creates a torrent descriptor file where it is hosted on a torrent website (I will list the sites later). Once activated, the original uploader becomes a 'seed' or 'seeder' and anyone is free to download that file. The way it works is a 'leecher' begins downloading pieces of the file until their download is completed and they too become seeder. A 'swarm' is the group of leechers who are known as a 'peers' or a 'peer'. These peers help alleviate the burden off the seeders by making available more pieces of the original file. The more seeders that are hosting the file translate to faster download time depending on your internet connection.

This is torrenting in action.
god doesn't even get it
WTF

The process of BitTorrent downloading makes the original file available for an unlimited number of peers while changing the file is made impossible by a cryptographic hash. Basically, unless you download a bad torrent you won't get a virus.

THE MAGICAL WORLD OF TORRENTS

Now that you've had a very brief explanation of how torrents work, here's how to start using them. First, you need to download a BitTorrent Client which is a program that manages your downloaded torrents. I currently use VUZE, but I recommend uTorrent because it is more lightweight than VUZE while functioning exactly the same (download links at bottom). Once you have the program installed, it should be updated to the latest version and BLAM you're ready to start downloading. Your next step is to find a torrent to download which can be the trickiest part.

Torrent sites that I recommend are isohunt.com and piratebay.org. Once on one of these websites simply use the main search bar to locate the file you want. FOR EXAMPLE, we will be searching for the movie Wayne's World in isohunt. Type in 'Wayne's World' and you will be given a list of torrent names that include what you want and what you don't want like Lil Wayne's discography. There is a blue bar that says Category/Age/Torrent Tags, Name/Size/S/L and you need to click 'S' for Seeds and rearrange the list so the torrents with the most seeds will appear top to bottom. Scroll down to your desired video (ours is on the second page) and select it. It is important to read the comments to learn about the sound and video quality (if that matters to you) and to see if it is actually what you are looking for. In our Wayne's World example, according to the comments it is good quality and works so you can click 'download torrent'. Once the torrent link is downloaded from the internet it will appear in your torrent managing program (VUZE or uTorrent) and you can watch it's progress.  At first there will be no seeds or leechers then 1, 2, 3, 4.... they will start to appear and the torrent file itself will begin being downloaded.  Once the torrent is finished downloading SHWING you have you first torrent, congrats!
rage

But, you're not finished yet. To torrent safely (and to be kind of a dick at the same time) you need to stop the torrent from uploading by right clicking the torrent name and selecting stop. A problem with videos that people may encounter is that they do not work with Quicktime. The solution is VLC which is basically the same thing as Quicktime, but is able to play much more video formats and functions slightly better.

The electronic world is your oyster with torrents, being smart is being safe when downloading.

Go get 'em tiger.

STYLE AND SUBSTANCE

Mr. J Dilla

His birthday is today and in remembering his death at age 32, friends created a short documentary about him and his influence on others. The rise of Common, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Pharcyde can partly be attributed to Jay's production skill and devotion to his music. Posthumously, Jay became more well known for his collaborations with Madlib while other rappers including Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Wu-Tang Clan paid homage to Dilla by rhyming over his beats. One of my favorite Dilla tracks went unreleased until 2009 and here it is below.

He is praised as the best hip-hop beat maker ever and thinking about my favorite producers, it's difficult argue against it.
RIP J Dilla

GOOD HEAVENS

This is jogger

Based out of Los Angeles, they are just another reason why anyone in California needs to head over to Low End Theory Club (new location in San Fransisco)... ASAP! Under Daedelus' label Alpha Pup Records, Jogger mixes a wide variety of sounds from various genres including electro, folk, drum and bass, glitch, and metal to create their latest album, This Great Pressure.

jogger

Utilizing live mixing technology, guitars, and at times a violin, Jogger takes your hand and guides you through a range of emotions from anger to sadness to joyful bliss. Notable songs from the album include Gorilla Meat (above), Master and Student, Falling, and Superman. Nephicide (below) is on another level. At first the song feels like it's going to be an uplifting electro banger, however when a sinister voice is introduced....well I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I'm forewarning you something intense happens. WATCH

Pretty much all hell broke loose. I can admit that I was thoroughly confused when I first heard the song... Should I be scared? WTF IS THIS?! Then I saw the music video and everything made sense. Nephicide is a testament to capabilities of Jogger. The duo gives listeners 10 unique tracks while maintaining a sense they were birthed by the same mother. I wouldn't expect to start a dance party with This Great Pressure, but shredding any form of gnar with Jogger in your ears just makes complete sense.
happy jogging.

ON AND OFF THE BANDWAGON

Getting On

A couple months ago while I was on a surf trip in Madeira, Portugal, my friend Bingo and I had spent too much time in a car and not enough time surfing. Because we had so much time to drive around we were able to listen to all the local radio stations. I've always been a fan of the radio, but quality radio programs are few and far between so we opted out and bought the Best of Jimi Hendrix and Pearl Jam's Ten. Bingo and I were there for a week and listened to the two albums so many times, speaking for myself, it'll be a while before I willingly listen to any of their songs. Once again, our only choice for music was the radio.

The four stations that the car consistently picked up were a Portuguese talk show, a classical station, and two top 40's stations. I can only listen to classical on certain occasions and getting pumped to surf isn't one of them so we resorted to the top 40's. Every once in a while a good song would come on, but more often than not, there would be songs I had never heard that just all around sucked. Memories by David Guetta is pretty old for us folk from the states and since I've been in Spain, I've heard it waaaaaay too many times in the clubs and honestly hoped it would come on to save me from what I was listening to.
It shames me to say that it wasn't some guido looking euro bro who made my ears bleed, but America's own. What a surprise right? Before you read on, please listen to this.

Here are the lyrics...

Whatdya think?

Right right, turn off the lights,
we're gonna lose our minds tonight,
what's the dealio?

I love when it's all too much,
5am turn the radio up
where's the rock and roll?

Party Crasher,
Penny Snatcher,
Call me up if you want gangsta
Don't be fancy, just get dancey
Why so serious?

So raise your glass if you are wrong,
in all the right ways,
all my underdogs,
we will never be never be anything but loud
and nitty gritty dirty little freaks
won't you come on and come on and raise your glass,
just come on and come on and raise your glass

Slam slam, oh hot damn
what part of party don't you understand,
wish you'd just freak out (freak out already)
can't stop, coming in hot,
I should be locked up right on the spot
it's so on right now (so fuckin on right now)

...and that repeats twice.

'WHY SO SERIOUS?' .....Music is art and doesn't have to make sense. Half the music I listen to is just bleeps and bloops with meaningless samples. It's all preference and I respect that, but I can't stand is when people like Pink wrap shit in tinfoil and sell it like it's the latest/coolest thing. The reason I write this is because I like going to clubs and dancing and all that nightlife business, but when the DJs in the clubs play bullshit like Pink's Raise Your Glass it just kills the fun vibe. I came across a couple of guys who tried to make their own club anthem in 8 hours to prove, according to them, "how easy it is to become the next katie perry." Watch the process here.

These guys have production knowledge and skill and I guess that's all it takes. Today, Andy Samberg's The Lonely Island group creates funny and memorable music that's great to hear at a party or a club. At the same time their music mocks those artists who are actually famous for producing that which is top 40 material. This is where the problem lies. How can we tell the good musicians who value quality apart from those who prefer to simply feed off the collective? I mean you could do both or try to, but you don't know anyone who is still stoked on American Idiot. It was always about Dookie and it always will be. So, the mainstream audience is a powerful tool, it can make a band legendary or worse, make the world reminisce on how good they used to be.

Getting Off

I was raised in the mainstream with modern rock like the Chili Peppers, Incubus, and Muse. I eventually heard MGMT and I couldn't stop listening to them. Their music is both upbeat and mellow, playable at a party or as your winding down to sleep. The neat thing about MGMT is that they were a indie group gone mainstream who somewhere along the way decided they didn't want to be that kind of band anymore. Oracular Spectacular was a hit and their next album, Congratulations was not. Personally, OS is better, but that doesn't mean Congratulations was bad. It was 'bad' because it didn't sell like OS and didn't have an 'electric feel' or 'kids', but looking at who MGMT is working with these days (the dudes from EDBANGER) reveals that maybe the content of Congratulations was intended to not be not liked by the mainstream audience. The two stand out songs besides Brian Eno and Flash Delerium are Siberian Breaks and Congratulations. Siberian Breaks is a 12 minute song, but not a long 12 minutes and is said to be Andrew VanWyngarden's favorite on the album. Give it a listen walking to class. To me, Congratulations sounds the best while the music video sheds light on how the band views it's current state with it's followers. WATCH

The beast is symbolic of the mainstream audience while it's eventual death in the desert portrays the long journey the *band had the last few years. The demise of the beast represents the decreasing support from the mainstream, but it is difficult to say that the mainstream will completely forget about them. In my opinion, MGMT is attempting to return to their indie roots as much as possible, but that became a problem when indie music became popular.

Websites like Pitchfork and Gorilla Vs. Bear get thousands, maybe tens of thousands of hits a day. This makes it hard to define what mainstream really is. For many artists its a better and faster way to become famous. Social sites make it easy for musical bandwagon to get moving while helping groups get more opportunities to become better known. At the same time, I respect those who choose to lay low and do their thing without the support of the masses. Maybe MGMT's plan will backfire when their next album is released? It could have a few hits, pulling them back into the limelight or maybe not. I think they didn't want to produce something that would make or break them. They definitely didn't want to sell out or do the Daft Punk hide forever, come back and suck trick. They've gone back to their roots and hopefully they'll come back with some cool sounds.

Back to the bandwagon... there's no fighting the mainstream and I don't expect to hear music I listen to in the clubs or the radio. Clubs try to do to their party partakers as politicians do to their constituents and that's catering to everyone. Being a club goer and English speaker I guess I need to be a little more understanding of the Spanish/euro DJ's. For them, it's all just sound that's pleasing to the ear. As much as top 40 bugs the shit out of me, next time I'm in a club I'll have reconciled that this the only place that it's acceptable to enjoy. So when you're dancing and realize Justin Beiber is playing or that you've heard the same song 4 times, just toss back a shot, think of Pink, and how it's so on right now (so fuckin on right now). Then repeat until it really is 'on'.

happy clubbing.

Killer line-up. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't go and I wont be able to see ALICE GLASS
<3

She already looks disappointed... If you say it's too expensive and can't go this year, start a Coachella fund for next year and quit being a chump. Camping, hanging out with friends, and watching some of the best musicians of our generation perform is unforgettable. If you do go and I hope you do, beware of the land sharks.

happy ticket buying.

hunting and gathering two thousand eleven

A lot of change has happened since I left Menifee. I went to school in Santa Barbara, picked up some new hobbies, and met some cool people. Recently my lawyer signed my lease for my place in Isla Vista next year. After discussing the building, backyard, and other important things about the place, I couldnt help but think about all the fun shit I want to do in and around my future new home.

It was after imagining all the stuff and things I would like to have in my new home, I realized I'm turning into a dirty fucking hippie. I've been denying a lot of things about myself, but after the new year and some guiding words from a friend I'm slowly coming to accept these things.

For example, I recently decided to stop washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner. I don't know where I got it from, but the whole natural remedy thing seems to be making a lot of sense lately. I mean, why do we use shampoo and conditioner anyways? The only people that tell us to use them are our parents. I guess commercials suggest that we need them, but they never say that anything bad will happen if you don't. It might be strange that I have been paying so much attention to my hair, but after coming to spain and understanding that I will never see anyone from here ever again (if i dont want to) that I can do weird shit and not care. Growing my hair out is one of those weird things. Another is practicing for mustache march. Im training daily and hopefully i'll be ready for game day/month, we'll see. Enough, back to turning into a hippie. I've decided that I want to build a tipi.

tipi

According to my lawyer's plans for our house, we're in for some fun times. I'll be living with 2 of my best friends, this girl who is an art major, and hopefully next to the rest of the OK CHALET crew. I'm also considering living in the tipi next to the vegetable garden and composter. Maybe I'll do it for a cause like saving saving sharks or ferris. That's kind of a wild idea, but so is living with Deanna. I'm an only child so living with people other than my parents is different. That aside and on top of all the summer activities like finally buidling a quarter pipe, though exciting, will all be dwarfed when I reunite with my woman. Ive missed her so much and she's been manhandled by too many guys while ive been gone, she's a slut. But it's ok babe, I'm comin back and Im going to shred the shit out of you. Peter's going to take pictures (if he still has his camera) and it's going to be nasty. Nos vemos pronto Pacifica.

deveraux

Jump on my stoke wagon because this is the year of "fuck yeah" moments. I cant tell you how many ive had today, but I can tell you the last two: the first was discovering that the cheapest sushi restaurant in Granada is right across the street, the second is buying my plane ticket to Africa. I've decided that if I make it back from Morocco, I'm making it a life goal to visit all of the continents. Antarctica is a stretch, but maybe I can be buried there? Who knows.

I'm also stoked about 2k11 because supposedly next year is the end of the world. F the mayans and the rapture, I hate that looming thought of the end. Can you imagine living during the cold war? f that too. My roommate David gave me an idea today about how we could go about living if it was in fact the end of the world. We could go crazy, take out a loan for a shit ton of money or find some way of getting lots of money and live like it's the end. Living like every day is your last day even though it would be next year sometime. Being the fuck yeah year, that sounds sick. But i hope it's not the end and i also hope our president isn't the antichrist. We all know he bumps slayer in the oval office when hillary isn't around, but cman, everyone's got their fix.

A couple things to look forward to:
1. new mix ft stephen hawking
2. sayin fuck yeah (a lot)
3. the TIPI
4. updates on how disgusting my hair is
5. Music profile on Daedelus & Caribou
6.chella
7. SOUP :)
8. other cool shit on here

Also, make some new years resolutions if you haven't already. Try setting your bar a little higher or a lot higher if you suck. Mine are to get better at spanish and be a better amigo. With that said, you should be a better friend and help me buy tipi material. Oh! I almost forgot that i might get a dog, fuck yeah moment right there. PEACE white man.
